PRIVACY POLICY
What we collect, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do about it. In plain language.
Last updated: 9 August 2026
Ablestate is a digital skills training organisation based in Kampala, Uganda. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
The short version: we do not sell your data, we do not run advertising trackers, and we do not build profiles on visitors. The only personal information we ask for is what you choose to type into our contact form.
What we collect
When you send us a message through the contact form, we collect:
- Your name
- Your email address
- The reason you selected for contacting us
- The content of your message
Our web host also keeps standard server logs, which record technical details such as your IP address, browser type and the time of your request. These are used for security and troubleshooting, not to identify you.
Why we collect it
We use the information from the contact form for one purpose: to read your message and reply to it. We do not add you to a mailing list without asking, and we do not use your details for marketing.
Where your message goes
Messages sent through the form are delivered by email to hello@ablestate.africa. We do not keep a copy of your message in the website database. Only people who help run Ablestate receive it.
Comments on articles
If you leave a comment on an article, WordPress stores the comment along with the name and email address you provide, your IP address and your browser user agent string. This helps us detect spam. Your email address is never shown publicly.
Cookies
We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. WordPress may set a cookie if you leave a comment, so your name and email are remembered the next time you comment, and it sets cookies for site administrators when they log in. You can clear or block cookies in your browser at any time without losing access to anything on this site.
Embedded content from other sites
Some articles may include embedded content such as videos or social media posts. These behave exactly as if you had visited the other website directly, and that site may collect data about you under its own policy. Our links to Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and X are ordinary links, and following them takes you to those platforms.
Who we share information with
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that make the website work, namely our web hosting provider and our email provider, and only to the extent needed to deliver your message. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Your message lives in our email inbox, not on the website. We keep it for as long as we need it to answer your enquiry and to keep a reasonable record of our correspondence, normally no longer than 24 months. You can ask us to delete it sooner and we will.
Your rights
Under Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, and equivalent laws elsewhere, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct anything that is wrong
- Ask us to delete your information
- Withdraw your consent at any time
- Complain to a data protection regulator, which in Uganda is the Personal Data Protection Office
To exercise any of these, email us at hello@ablestate.africa. We will respond as quickly as we can.
Keeping information safe
This site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection, and access to stored messages is limited to the people who need it. No website can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you send us.
Young people
Much of our work is with young people. If you are under 18, please talk to a parent, guardian or teacher before sending us your personal details. If you believe a child has sent us information and you would like it removed, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be noted clearly.
